HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

THE LITA PROJECT® exists to provide job-readiness training and employment for at risk people, with an emphasis on women, the homeless, those in recovery and others marginalized in society. Training includes, but is not limited to, the production, marketing, advertising, promotion, distribution, management and sales of food products and other products and services.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

THE LITA PROJECT® is a transition point of employment re-entry for those graduating recovery programs, and others, in preparation for full immersion back into the general work force.

These individuals could be skilled workers who have enjoyed gainful employment in the past. They may also be people who have little to no work experience. Rather than heading directly into the general work force with potential negative influences and pressures, they can complete their recovery programs while safely developing or brushing up on skills, gaining experience and preparing financially to graduate and transition to their new lives.

PROVIDING HOPE

Often, through no fault of their own, or simply as a result of one wrong turn, people can find themselves in dangerous situations which can take them in a downward spiral with no way out.

With no job skills and resources, they find themselves stuck in an abusive relationship, or pregnant with no means to support their child, or addicted to alcohol and/or drugs, or homeless, or in prostitution, or incarcerated, or even victims of human/sex trafficking. If they have children, they stand to lose them to the foster care system.

How can they possibly hope to get them back without a job, a home and stability? Often, they can’t. There is a sense of hopelessness. And so, the cycle continues generation after generation.

Sometimes, hope needs a hand-up.

Living in Truth Always

OUR STORY

Welcome to The Living in Truth Always Blog

“These days, the word truth is thrown around a lot.  We certainly hear it in the news on a daily basis, and in my time working as a mentor of at-risk women, I often heard things like: my truth, her truth, what is the truth, tell the truth, speak the truth, HE is the truth, and like phrases.  When I Google words that are synonymous with TRUTH, I am drawn to words like genuineness, correctness, rightness, honesty, and most especially, authenticity.”

Back to the Beginning

“You will spend your life barefoot and pregnant. You will never be anything better than a secretary.  I wouldn’t waste my money on you.”  That was my father’s reply when I asked him if he could help me with the finances to go to college.  Throughout my childhood, my father was an abusive alcoholic. Extreme violence, intense abuse of every kind at all hours of the day and night, rage, anger and hatred from my father was my day-to-day reality.  I lived in paralyzing fear of him.”

My Brother, Steve

“Of my three older brothers, I journeyed through life most closely with Steve.  We suffered together throughout our childhood and teens, and saw each other through rough times as adults.  When Steve was about four-years-old, the doctors discovered that he had perthes disease which is a rare childhood condition that affects the hip. The doctors told my parents that the best hope for him to have a normal life where he could walk would be ongoing treatment at a children’s hospital.”

What is Social Entrepreneurship?

Without a job, it is almost impossible to change the downward trajectory of a life.  The Lita Project® has been established as a non-profit corporation that practices social entrepreneurship.  As a result, the company “relies less heavily on donor funds because it creates social programs that are meant to be self-sustaining.  A social enterprise is thus, first and foremost a business.” – Shrey Goyal, Social Entrepreneur
